The wine draws from a mosaic of small parcels across Barolo, Serralunga d’Alba, Novello, Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d’Alba, each contributing a distinct structural and aromatic dimension shaped by altitude, exposure and soil diversity. From 2021, fruit from the Le Coste di Monforte holding (farmed since 2000) is also included, further expanding the wine’s structural range.

A portion of the fermentation (around 20–30%) is conducted with whole clusters, while the remainder benefits from a high proportion of whole berries thanks to advanced destemming technology. Macerations are carefully managed and now slightly longer than in the past, but always conducted with a focus on finesse and fruit preservation rather than extraction. The aim is clarity, aromatic lift and layered texture rather than power.

The 2021 vintage shows a particularly refined and complete expression, shaped by both site diversity and the transparency of the year. Aromatically, it moves through crushed flowers, red cherry, blood orange, mint, spice and subtle kirsch notes, all carried by a seamless, finely tuned palate. There is both brightness and depth, with an underlying sense of tension and energy that gives the wine drive and longevity. Recent stylistic evolution has added more dimension and a darker undertone, while retaining elegance and lift.

“I always have special affection for this wine, and between the Aleste and Le Vigne, this is my preferred bottle. I love the brightness and focus of the fruit, the pretty complexity and the rich mouthfeel. The fruit aromas are laced with licorice, cola and spice. The high notes are quite apparent in this excellent vintage. I came back to taste this wine 24 hours later and found those notes to be just as intense and beautiful.”
97+ points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

“The 2021 Barolo Le Vigne is a classy, seamless wine. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and kirsch open gracefully in the glass. This is such an elegant, sophisticated Barolo. The recent shift of sites to Serralunga and Monforte, along with longer ferments, has transformed the Le Vigne into a darker, more somber wine, while the inclusion of stems in some lots adds aromatic dimension. Le Vigne is a wine in movement.”
97+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0843/3428/0897/files/Luciano_Sandrone_Barolo_Le_Vigne_2021.webp?v=1780225793
