Agricola Vintners Flaxman Valley Shiraz 2024
Comes from Agricola Vintners, where Callum Powell brings a modern, terroir-driven vision to historic Barossa vineyards. Sourced from cool-climate vines planted between 1912 and 1951 on steep Eden Valley hillsides, this Shiraz unfolds with dark berries, wild herbs, and mineral whispers, flowing into a textured palate of finely etched tannins and bright, lively acidity. Elegant yet powerful, it captures both the heritage of its vines and Callum’s intuitive, site-focused approach, offering a wine that speaks clearly of place and purpose.
The 2024 Flaxman Valley Shiraz is inky and mineral, with graphite and licorice, roses and raspberry seed; there’s real depth here, with concentration and intensity. The fruit is sourced from a vineyard at 550 meters in elevation. Part of the wine matured in concrete egg, which preserves the fruit and creates seamlessness and chalkiness in the tannins. The tannins are profuse but pliable. This is highly attractive and brooding, in its way. The fruit is sourced from the Naimanya and Burley vineyards, both in Flaxman’s Valley up in the Eden Valley. The wine matured in a combination of oak (15% new) and 25% concrete egg. 13.3% alcohol, sealed under natural cork. 97 Pts, Drink 2025-2039 - Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate
