Piedrasassi Syrah Santa Barbara County 2021
Founded in 2003 by Sashi Moorman and Melissa Sorongon in California’s Lompoc region, Piedrasassi is devoted to crafting expressive, terroir driven Syrah from cool climate sites across Santa Barbara County. With a philosophy rooted in minimal intervention and respect for the vineyard, the estate produces wines that reflect both their place and the hands that nurture them.
The 2021 Syrah is layered and vibrant, opening with dark blackberry, plum and fragrant pepper with subtle hints of smoked herbs and earthy minerality. Medium bodied and elegantly structured, velvety tannins carry the fruit to a lingering finish, revealing the balance and finesse that Piedrasassi strives for in every bottle and offering a true expression of Santa Barbara Syrah.
The 2021 Syrah Santa Barbara County is scented of black raspberries, candied blackberries, cracked pepper, smoked meats and green olive. The medium-bodied palate is bright and chalky with restrained yet nuanced fruit and a long, latent finish. I would be inclined to drink it on the earlier side after a couple hours in a decanter, and its freshness will allow it to pair widely at the table. 2,436 cases produced. 92 Pts, Drink 2025-2035 - Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate
