Joh Jos Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese 2023 Mosel
Sourced from the renowned Graacher Himmelreich and crafted by Joh. Jos. Prüm, this 2023 Auslese captures a vintage where ripeness and clarity align with striking precision. It reflects a step up in intensity, offering greater depth and concentration while remaining true to the house’s hallmark finesse.
The fruit profile is riper and more expressive, yet the wine stays beautifully poised and ultra-fine. Layers of Mirabelle plum, citrus and delicate herbal nuances unfold with clarity, supported by vibrant acidity that carries the wine effortlessly across the palate. The balance is exacting, with sweetness seamlessly integrated into a structure that feels both weightless and persistent, finishing long, clean and refined.
While wines at this level can often require time to reveal their full character, the 2023 shows an immediate sense of openness and charm. It is already compelling in its youth, yet retains the structure to evolve gracefully over the coming decades, gaining further complexity and nuance with time in bottle.
Its finesse and delicacy make it far more suited to savoury pairings than overtly sweet dishes. It works beautifully with roast pork, duck, game birds and spice-driven cuisines, particularly Japanese and Chinese dishes. It is equally at home alongside ceviche, fruit-accented preparations and a wide range of cheeses, where its interplay of freshness and sweetness comes fully into focus.
“I love the mint and chamomile freshness that pulls you into this juicy and concentrated wine and also make it very filigreed on the medium-bodied palate. Incredible precision and subtlety in the super-long finish. Try to be patient, because this is a marathon runner. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.”

“The 2023 Riesling Graacher Himmelreich Auslese, made virtually without botrytis from fully ripe grapes, offers a shy tone of stone and yeast. The palate features Mirabelle jelly with lovely overtones of lemon balm and fern, wonderfully cut by freshness with a pithy, zesty edge of lime and mainly pale lemon. The finish resembles lemon and yellow plum sorbet, exquisitely fresh and palate-cleansing, yet with exquisite sweetness. Incredibly fine, slender and so balanced.”
