Domaine Montbourgeau Jura L'Etoile Savagnin 2019
Crafted by the Montbourgeau family, who have been making wine in L’Étoile since the early 1900s. Aged under the region’s flor yeast, it brims with savory, nutty, and citrus notes, layered with hints of bruised apple, almond skin, and toasted hazelnut. The palate is vibrant and textured, showing stone fruit, saline minerality, and a lingering, savory finish that captures the wild, untamed character of Jura and the unique energy of Savagnin.
The way the 2019 L'Etoile Savagnin, aged four and a half years under a veil of flor yeasts in 228-liter barrels, took and expresses the flor is very different from the way the flor is expressed in the Chardonnay Cuvée Spéciale. This is more floral and spicier, with notes of celery. The palate is round and velvety, with good ripeness, reflecting a warm and powerful year but with the freshness and acidity from the grape variety. It comes from two plots: Les Baudes Haut, the higher part, was planted in 1988, and Les Bas, the lower part, was planted in 1990 on gray marls and limestone with fossil soils. 1,500 bottles were filled in April 2024. 95 Pts, Drink 2024-2034 - Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate
