Matías Riccitelli is one of the leading figures of Argentina's new generation of winemakers. Son of the legendary Jorge Riccitelli, Matías established his own project in Mendoza in 2009, determined to explore the country's remarkable old vineyards and show a different, more elegant side of Argentine wine. His approach combines traditional techniques, thoughtful farming and a fascination with the individuality of each vineyard.

Tinto de la Casa is a particularly beautiful expression of this philosophy. Made entirely from Malbec, it brings together two exceptional sites: Las Compuertas in Luján de Cuyo, at 1,100 metres above sea level, and Gualtallary in the Uco Valley, at 1,400 metres. The former contributes depth and generosity, while the limestone-rich soils of Gualtallary bring freshness, spice and structure.

The grapes are co-fermented with 50% whole bunches using indigenous yeasts in French oak vats, where the wine also matures until the following harvest. The result is a wonderfully expressive Malbec, full of dark cherries, blackberries, violets and subtle spice, with beautifully integrated tannins and a long, mineral finish.

A serious yet incredibly enjoyable Argentine red that reminds us just how exciting Malbec can be.
