Bruno Duchêne Vin de Pays de la Côte Vermeille 'La Luna' Rouge 2024
Bruno Duchêne La Luna Rouge 2024 is a rare and captivating Grenache-based red from the rugged slopes of the Côte Vermeille, where ancient terraced vineyards overlook the Mediterranean. Silky, perfumed and effortlessly expressive, it captures the wild beauty of this remarkable corner of southern France.
Drawn primarily from Grenache with a small proportion of Carignan, the wine offers an alluring aromatic profile of strawberry, black cherry, plum skin, citrus peel, violet and earthy spice. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied, combining vibrant blackberry fruit with remarkable purity and finesse. A silky texture, lively acidity and subtle hints of rose water carry through a long, graceful finish.
Bruno Duchêne farms just four hectares spread across four distinct parcels around Collioure, all planted on decomposed schist soils at approximately 300 metres elevation. These steep terraced vineyards are extraordinarily difficult to work and produce naturally tiny yields. Like the great sites of Germany’s Mosel, many of these historic vineyards face abandonment due to the immense labour required to maintain them, making wines such as La Luna increasingly precious.
Rather than separating wines by terroir, Duchêne distinguishes his cuvées according to farming practices. La Luna comes from parcels where grasses and native vegetation are allowed to grow freely, promoting biodiversity and natural balance within the vineyard. The result is a wine that feels particularly lifted, supple and aromatic.
The 2024 release is beautifully poised, combining intensity with elegance and delivering the transparency, freshness and sense of place that have made Bruno Duchêne one of the cult names of the Roussillon. Produced in tiny quantities and eagerly sought after each year, La Luna remains one of France’s most distinctive and charming Grenache expressions.
