A distinctive amphora-raised skin-contact white from the high-altitude vineyards of the Granite Belt, the 2022 Qvevri Skin Contact from La Petite Mort is crafted from Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne, shaped through extended skin contact and traditional qvevri fermentation.

La Petite Mort is the experimental project of winemaker Glen Robert and viticulturist Robert Richter, based on their Bent Road property sitting close to 1000 metres above sea level. With a philosophy grounded in minimal intervention and organic-friendly farming, the estate works in close response to site conditions, both in the vineyard and winery. Glen's background in biochemistry informs a precise yet intuitive winemaking approach, while the broader ethos is driven by curiosity, texture and what they describe as "rough perfection."

Made in qvevri with extended time on skins, this is a deeply textural and aromatic expression of these Rhône varieties. The nose is expressive and complex, showing orange peel, dried apricot, white peach skin, chamomile, rose petals and wild herbs, underpinned by a savoury, earthy mineral thread.

The palate is structured by fine tannins and natural acidity, giving both grip and flow. Layers of citrus oil, stone fruit skin and tea-like savouriness build across a textured, gently grippy frame, finishing long, dry and faintly rustic with a distinctive savoury persistence.

A bold and uncompromising amphora wine that captures altitude, experimentation and a hands-on philosophy, delivering both intensity and detail in equal measure.
