Vanguardist Oeno Grenache 2024
A highly detailed expression of Blewitt Springs Grenache from McLaren Vale, the 2024 Oeno Grenache from Vanguardist reflects Michael Corbett's meticulous, site-first approach to one of Australia's most important varieties.
Corbett brings more than 30 vintages of international experience across France, the USA, New Zealand and Australia, a background that informs a precise and highly adaptive winemaking philosophy. His work consistently balances technical control with a deep sensitivity to vineyard expression.
This wine is sourced from the historic Silver Sands Vineyard in Blewitt Springs, planted in the late 1960s by Robert Rende and his father. Dry grown and rooted in deep windblown Maslin sands over alluvial soils, the site is central to the wine's perfume, finesse and mineral drive. Vineyard work is closely managed in collaboration with growers, with organic and biodynamic preparations used to support balance and vine health.
In the winery, fruit is handled in small one-tonne ferment batches, allowing for precision blending and detailed expression of site. The Oeno range sits at the more refined end of the Vanguardist spectrum, exploring elegance, structure and complexity through careful extraction, extended maceration and maturation in foudre, older oak and amphora.
The 2024 release shows lifted aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, blood orange and rose petals, layered with spice, dried herbs and a subtle earthy undertone. The palate is finely weighted yet intensely flavoured, driven by silky tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury finish that carries both perfume and structure.
Acclaimed by critics as one of Australia's leading Grenache expressions, this is a wine of focus, restraint and depth, shaped by one of the most exacting hands in modern Australian winemaking.
