Vinea Marson is the remarkable Heathcote project of Mario Marson, a winemaker whose Italian heritage and experience at Mount Mary inspired him to explore the potential of traditional Italian varieties in Australia. Established in 2000 on the ancient Cambrian soils of the Mount Camel Range, the estate has become particularly respected for its distinctive expressions of Sangiovese and Nebbiolo.

The 2019 Nebbiolo comes from one of Australia's most fascinating plantings of the variety, featuring 13 different clones across five biotypes, including Lampia, Michet, Rosé, Chiavennasca and Bolla. Each selection contributes different characteristics to the finished wine, bringing remarkable aromatic complexity and structure.

The fruit was harvested and fermented in five separate batches before undergoing an extended 45-day post-fermentation maceration. The wine then spent two years ageing in large traditional oak botti, following an approach inspired by the great Nebbiolo wines of Piemonte.

Beautifully savoury and unmistakably Nebbiolo, with aromas of crushed raspberries, dried rose petals, cherry cola, dried herbs and a subtle touch of tar. The palate brings fresh cherries, redcurrants and bitter orange, supported by beautifully integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish.

A serious, traditionally styled Australian Nebbiolo with genuine depth and character. With several years of bottle age already behind it, this is a particularly interesting opportunity to explore the ageing potential of Heathcote Nebbiolo.
