Henri Chauvet A Fleur de Peau Chardonnay 2023
Extremely limited allocation — 2 bottles available.
Since 2021, Henri Chauvet has been the custodian of 10.5 hectares of diverse vineyards in Boudes, Auvergne, with a focus on Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Working across the steep slopes surrounding his home, Henri began the conversion to organic farming the moment he took over the vineyards, guided by a deep respect for terroir and a desire to let the character of these remarkable hillsides speak clearly through his wines.
Boudes remains a little-known village outside France, but locally it has a reputation for producing some of the most expressive Gamays, Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in the Auvergne. Its volcanic soils bring a distinctive combination of tension, salinity and mineral depth, qualities that are particularly compelling in Chauvet's Chardonnay.
À Fleur de Peau is a 100% Chardonnay made from Domaine fruit, and one of Chauvet's more serious and compelling white wines. Pale gold in the glass, it is dry, crystalline and remarkably precise, opening with expressive aromas of yellow and orange citrus peel alongside subtle mineral and floral nuances.
The palate has a beautiful combination of energy and richness. Vibrant acidity carries layers of ripe citrus and mineral-tinged fruit, while the texture gives the wine real depth and presence. The finish is particularly striking: long, saline and finely etched, leaving behind a sense of freshness and quiet intensity.
This is Chardonnay far removed from the obvious, showing the volcanic character of Boudes through its tension, minerality and extraordinary clarity. A sophisticated, age-worthy wine with the precision of a great white and the unmistakable personality of its Auvergne origins.
