António Maçanita Arinto dos Açores 2024
António Maçanita is one of Portugal's most exciting winemakers, known for uncovering forgotten vineyards, championing native varieties and revealing the incredible diversity of Portuguese terroir. Through projects such as Azores Wine Company, he has become one of the leading voices in the revival of the Azores wine scene.
From the dramatic volcanic island of Pico comes a wine shaped by one of the most extreme vineyard landscapes in the world.
The Arinto dos Açores is made from a rare indigenous grape variety found only in the Azores. Planted in cracks of ancient lava flows at the foot of the volcanic Pico mountain, the vines grow just metres from the Atlantic Ocean, protected by traditional stone walls known as currais from the strong salty winds.
Fermented with minimal intervention and aged for 10 months on fine lees, this is a wine of incredible tension and energy. Bright citrus, grapefruit, pure mineral notes and a striking saline character define the palate, finishing with the freshness and precision of the Atlantic.
A true expression of place: volcanic rock, ocean air and a grape variety found nowhere else on Earth.
