Domaine Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec 2024
Perched on the Première Côte just above the town of Vouvray, Clos du Bourg is a monopole and generally regarded as the greatest of Huet's three single vineyards. The domaine has farmed it since 1953 and purchased it in 1963. With only one metre of topsoil over solid limestone, the vines tap almost immediately into the mineral resources beneath. The warmth of the site, combined with the mineral complexion of the soils, results in rich, long-lived wines that effortlessly combine intense minerality with generous texture and concentration.
Clos du Bourg is arguably the greatest vineyard in the Loire, producing some of the most powerful, thrilling and age-worthy white wines in Europe. The Sec is the driest expression of the site, demanding patience but rewarding it generously. Huet's biodynamic farming and commitment to native yeasts ensure the wine is a pure, unmediated expression of this extraordinary terroir.
Yohan Castaing of The Wine Advocate awarded 92+ points, writing: "More introverted and shy in comparison to Haut-Lieu, the 2024 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec wafts from the glass with aromas of grapefruit, confit citrus, lime and spring flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and phenolic, it's slightly austere with a tannic mid-palate that leads to a gently bitter finish. This refined yet structured wine needs some time in the cellar to chill out."
