Wasenhaus Weissburgunder Landwein 2022

Regular price $115

Wasenhaus is one of the most exciting names in contemporary German wine. Founded in Baden by Christoph Wolber and Alexander Götze, the project reflects the pair’s shared experience in Burgundy and their belief in producing wines that are precise, expressive and deeply connected to place.

The Weissburgunder Landwein 2022 is Wasenhaus’s interpretation of Pinot Blanc, a variety that feels particularly at home in Baden. Sourced from carefully farmed vineyards and made with a hands-off approach in the cellar, the wine is fermented naturally and handled with patience, allowing the character of the fruit and vineyards to take centre stage.

The 2022 is beautifully textured and quietly complex, showing notes of ripe pear, yellow apple and citrus alongside subtle nuttiness and a savoury mineral character. There is generosity through the palate, but plenty of freshness and tension keep the wine focused and elegant.

Like the best wines from Wasenhaus, this sits somewhere between Baden and Burgundy in spirit, combining the precision and structure of great European white wine with a distinctly individual personality. A serious, characterful Weissburgunder from one of Germany’s most compelling young producers.
