Alice and Olivier de Moor's Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu comes from one of their two vineyards classified as Premier Cru. Located on the right bank of the River Serein, Mont de Milieu has Kimmeridgian marl and limestone soils with Portlandian limestone scree. Its southerly exposure makes it one of the warmer climats in Chablis, giving the wines a naturally generous and expansive character.

We released this wine in July 2025, but the de Moors had held back part of their allocation rather than selling the entire vintage. With concerns about the following harvest, they chose to keep some wine in reserve. Thankfully, the next vintage did not turn out to be the disaster they feared, and they were able to offer us the remaining bottles this year.

The 2022 vintage was vinified with two-thirds of the wine aged in clay amphora and one-third in barrels for 12 months. The two components were then blended and given another year of ageing in a 2,500-litre barrel before being bottled in November 2024. The wine was lightly filtered.

Now with an additional year of bottle age, the wine has developed even greater depth and harmony. There is a richness and generous expansiveness to the 2022, balanced by the mineral character and freshness that define great Chablis. A beautiful example of Mont de Milieu, and a particularly special opportunity to drink a de Moor 1er Cru with some additional age.
