Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana 2024
Tenuta delle Terre Nere is among the most important producers on Mount Etna, with Marco de Grazia's pioneering work helping establish the volcano's individual contrade as some of Italy's most fascinating fine wine terroirs. The estate's approach is centred on old vines, meticulous vineyard management and allowing the extraordinary volcanic landscape to speak through the wines.
Calderara Sottana is one of Etna's most celebrated vineyards, situated on the northern slopes near Randazzo. Its ancient volcanic soils are exceptionally rocky, with large deposits of black pumice and basalt, creating conditions that produce wines of remarkable structure, depth and mineral complexity.
The 2024 is predominantly Nerello Mascalese, offering an intricate combination of red cherries, wild strawberries, dried rose petals, Mediterranean herbs and subtle spice. Beneath the delicate aromatics lies a beautifully structured palate, with fine, persistent tannins and a distinctive volcanic mineral character.
Elegant yet powerful, with exceptional length and precision, Calderara Sottana is a compelling expression of Etna's ability to produce wines of genuine finesse and longevity. One of the estate's most important single-vineyard reds.
