Source of the Nile is the personal winemaking project of Scott McGarry, working with carefully sourced fruit from vineyards across South Australia. His approach centres on minimal intervention, wild fermentation and Mediterranean grape varieties, producing expressive, characterful wines with an emphasis on freshness and drinkability.

Magical Realism Grenache 2025 comes from the organically farmed Hoffman Dimchurch Vineyard in Ebenezer, in the northern Barossa Valley. Planted in 1993, these mature Grenache vines grow in one of Australia's most established regions for the variety.

The grapes were handpicked, with 25% fermented as whole bunches and the remaining 75% destemmed. Fermentation was spontaneous with indigenous yeasts, followed by eight days on skins and gentle hand plunging twice daily. The wine was then pressed into two seasoned French oak hogsheads for 12 months of maturation before being bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphur.

At just 12% alcohol, this is a particularly restrained expression of Barossa Grenache, with the emphasis on freshness, gentle extraction and the natural character of the fruit rather than weight or excessive ripeness. A thoughtful approach to one of Australia's most exciting red varieties.
