From western Sicily, where salt wind and limestone soils define almost every vineyard decision, Marco de Bartoli works with a deep focus on native varieties and site expression. While the estate is best known for its historic Marsala and island wines from Pantelleria, its dry whites have become just as important in showing the everyday voice of Sicily.

Catarratto Lucido refers to a selected biotype of Catarratto, the island’s most widely planted white grape. “Lucido” translates as “bright” or “polished,” and it points to a slightly cleaner, more aromatic and precise expression of the variety compared to more rustic selections. It tends to show greater definition in the fruit, higher natural freshness, and a more linear structure in the glass.

In Sicily’s warm climate, Catarratto can easily become heavy or overly broad, but in the Lucido form it keeps a firmer frame. It is typically grown in hillside and coastal-influenced sites where diurnal shifts help preserve acidity and aromatic lift. The result is a style that leans into clarity rather than richness.

The wine shows citrus oil, green apple and white flowers, with a faint almond bitterness and a distinctly saline, almost chalky edge. The palate is dry and focused, with a gentle phenolic grip that gives shape and length rather than weight. There is a quiet tension running through it, balancing ripe Mediterranean fruit with freshness drawn from sea influence and altitude.

It is not a showy white. Instead, it reflects the estate’s broader philosophy: minimal intervention, strong varietal identity, and a preference for wines that feel transparent rather than constructed.
