Marco de Bartoli Etna Rosso 2022
From the northern slopes of Mount Etna near Solicchiata and Linguaglossa, Marco de Bartoli brings its trademark restraint and precision to one of Italy’s most distinctive red wine landscapes. The DBE bottling comes from the Tenuta Solisciaro estate, where high altitude, lava soils and constant volcanic influence shape a red built on perfume rather than power.
The 2022 is made from 100% Nerello Mascalese, the noble red grape of Etna, known for its ability to translate altitude and volcanic soils into aromatic lift, fine structure and long, mineral-driven ageing potential. Production is extremely limited, with only around 2,500 bottles made from this vintage.
It opens with bright red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, followed by violets, rose petals and a subtle layer of dried herbs and spice. Beneath the fruit sits a clear volcanic signature: ash, crushed stone and a smoky mineral edge that gives definition to the aromatics.
On the palate it is linear and finely tuned. Acidity is the driving force, carrying the wine with energy and precision, while fine, powdery tannins add shape without weight. The fruit remains red and high-toned throughout, never drifting into darkness or excess.
The finish is long, fresh and slightly saline, with a persistent mineral echo that reflects its volcanic origin.
A pure expression of Nerello Mascalese from Etna’s northern face, defined by altitude, lava soils and a deliberately restrained winemaking approach focused on clarity and site expression.
