Catena Zapata Alamos Torrontes Mendoza Argentina 2024
Torrontes is Argentina's great aromatic white, and this one from Catena Zapata is a brilliant example of why it deserves more attention than it gets.
From high-altitude vineyards in Mendoza, it's fragrant and expressive right from the pour. Orange blossom, jasmine, ripe peach and a squeeze of citrus peel, the kind of nose that stops you mid-conversation. On the palate it's lively and fresh, with stone fruit and floral lift and just enough acidity to keep things honest. Clean finish, no fuss, very easy to go back to.
Catena Zapata are one of Argentina's best, and Alamos is their everyday label done properly. Great value, great drinking.
Chuck it in the fridge, crack it with seafood, a light salad, or honestly just on its own on a warm afternoon.
(On the 2022) There are little vintage variations in the Alamos range, and the 2022 Torrontés offers varietal aromas and flavors of jasmine and orange blossom and a faint bitter twist on the long, dry and clean finish. 90Pts, Luis Gutierrez - The Wine Advocate.
