Few people have done more to change the way we think about Portuguese wine than Luis Seabra. After spending more than a decade as head winemaker at the legendary Niepoort, Luis decided to go his own way in 2012, determined to make wines that spoke more about their vineyards than the person making them. His approach has helped redefine the Douro, showing that this famously hot, rugged region can produce wines of extraordinary finesse, freshness and mineral precision.

Xisto Ilimitado Branco comes from vineyards planted on the region's distinctive schist soils, with vines growing at elevations of around 500 to 600 metres. A blend of traditional Portuguese white varieties including Rabigato, Códega, Gouveio and Viosinho, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged partly in used oak, allowing the wine to develop beautiful texture without losing its freshness. The name Ilimitado, meaning unlimited, is a reference to the seemingly endless stretches of schist that define the Douro landscape.

The 2024 is a gorgeous, mineral-driven white, full of fresh pear, crisp green apple, lemon zest and delicate white flowers. There's a wonderful stony, almost flinty character running through the wine, with subtle savoury notes, lovely texture and a long, mouthwatering saline finish.

This is the sort of white that makes you wonder why more people aren't drinking Portuguese wine. Precise, beautifully balanced and full of personality, with a Burgundian sense of elegance but a character entirely its own. An absolute beauty.
