Passage Syrah Baw Baw Shire Gippsland 2024
Passage Wines farms a small parcel of own-rooted, dry-grown Shiraz at the Bull Swamp vineyard in Warragul, Baw Baw Shire, planted in 1981 on red volcanic soils in the cool-climate hills of Gippsland. Wild fermented in stainless steel with light pump-overs and hand punch-downs, the wine matured in French oak barriques and hogsheads for eleven months before a further four months in tank prior to bottling. The 2024 growing season was warmer and sunnier than average, producing thicker skins and naturally greater concentration while retaining the site's characteristic freshness and precision.
A cool-climate Syrah of real character, shaped by old vines, volcanic soils and minimal intervention. Honest winemaking guided by site and season.
