Rafael Palacios Louro Godello Valdeorras 2024
The youngest of the portfolio is the 2024 Louro, which shows a balsamic, herbal and faintly medicinal nose, with a hint of bay leaf true to its name in Galician. It is quite aromatic and fermented in 3,500 litre oak foudres, where it matured on lees for four months. It comes in at 14 percent alcohol yet retains good freshness and acidity. Approachable in style with a tender texture. 185,000 bottles produced, bottled between April and May 2025. 93 Pts, Luis Gutiérrez -The Wine Advocate.
From the steep granite terraces of Valdeorras, Rafael Palacios’ Louro 2024 is a benchmark expression of Godello, where altitude, old vines and careful élevage bring both tension and quiet richness.
Sourced from hillside vineyards and fermented in large oak, then rested on lees, it builds texture without losing precision or sense of place.
The nose is layered and mineral, showing lime zest, green apple and white flowers alongside fennel, herbs and a subtle savoury edge. On the palate it is taut yet gently rounded, balancing citrus driven freshness with a waxy, almost glyceric texture. A clear mineral backbone runs through to a long, dry finish with a faint saline edge.
A more structured and quietly powerful style of Spanish white, sitting between freshness and depth, and a natural match for grilled seafood or dishes with a bit of weight.
