Tinnyu is the project of Leqi Liu and Yuxuan Qiu, two winemakers with formative experience at Château Olivier, Champagne, Ao Yun and Domaine Franco-Chinois, now making pure, alpine wines in Shangri-La, Yunnan, along the upper reaches of the Mekong and Yangtze rivers. Farming just 0.83 hectares without tillage, using cover crops and compost to build soil health at altitude, they are producing some of the most exciting wines to emerge from China in recent years.

The 5pm Rosé is an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz from Mei-Li-Shi Village at 2,300 metres in Shangri-La. Hand-harvested and directly pressed, the juice fermented over 13 days before ageing in stainless steel for six months. A small addition of 5% Chardonnay is made before bottling, adding lift and freshness. The result is a high-altitude rosé of real character: precise, aromatic and unlike anything else from the region.
