Alfredo Maestro is one of Spain's most singular winemakers, based in Peñafiel in the Duero Valley and working with a restless curiosity that takes him well beyond the region's Tempranillo heartland. El Rey del Glam is a Grenache-based wine that draws on two very different terroirs: half the fruit comes from the granite slopes of the Sierra de Gredos in Navarredondilla, Ávila, and the balance from sandy soils in Peñafiel, Valladolid. Altitudes range from 700 to 1100 metres, bringing both perfume and freshness to the blend.

The winemaking is entirely carbonic maceration, a technique that is wholly unique for this area and that Alfredo uses to coax maximum fruit expression and lift from the Grenache. The combination of high-altitude granite and sandy valley soils, unified through carbonic maceration, produces a wine of unusual complexity for its style.

In 2023 the wine really sings: the earlier-picked parcels bring brightness and crunch, while later parcels add a touch of depth. Vibrant red fruit, lively acidity and a playful, irresistible energy. Pure charm from one of Spain's most original voices.
