Commune of Buttons is the family label of Jasper and Sophie Button, born from 3.5 hectares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay planted in Basket Range in the Adelaide Hills thirty years ago. Jasper now manages 4.2 hectares of vines using organic and biodynamic practices: soil regeneration through cultivation, mulch, teas and biodynamic composts; green and regenerative pruning; and dry farming in mature vines. Vintages in Piemonte, Burgundy, Jura and Beaujolais have shaped his approach in the cellar, picking on natural acidity, gentle slow extractions, cool fermentations and minimal racking. All wines are bottled via gravity onsite, and sulphur is added only when absolutely necessary, never exceeding 20 ppm.

Gloria is a barrel selection from the original 1992 plantings of Pinot Noir in the one-hectare Gloria Vineyard, a low-yielding, dry-grown site on an east-facing slope of clay sandstone, quartz and ironstone soils. The vineyard is planted to a mix of MV6 and 115 clones. Following hand harvesting and careful sorting, the fruit was destemmed with around 10% retained as whole bunches. Fermentation included a three-week maceration, after which the wine was matured for eight months in barriques (20% new oak) and a further four months in tank prior to bottling.

Bright natural acidity and a core of red fruits, cherry, cranberry and plum, lifted by an earthy, forest-floor complexity. A thread of ironstone-derived minerality adds depth and savoury structure to the finish. Beautifully balanced and elegant, and a wine that speaks of site above all else.
