Commune of Buttons Nebbiolo Rosato 2024
Commune of Buttons is the family label of Jasper and Sophie Button, born from 3.5 hectares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay planted in Basket Range in the Adelaide Hills thirty years ago. Jasper now manages 4.2 hectares of vines using organic and biodynamic practices: soil regeneration through cultivation, mulch, teas and biodynamic composts; green and regenerative pruning; and dry farming in mature vines. Vintages in Piemonte, Burgundy, Jura and Beaujolais have shaped his approach in the cellar, picking on natural acidity, gentle slow extractions, cool fermentations and minimal racking. All wines are bottled via gravity onsite, and sulphur is added only when absolutely necessary, never exceeding 20 ppm.
The Nebbiolo Rosato comes from a tiny 0.2-hectare planting in the Clover Vineyard, with only 1,600 bottles produced. Harvested early in April to preserve brightness and lift, the fruit was chilled overnight, destemmed, and given six days of skin contact before fermentation. It was then pressed to stainless steel to finish ferment, followed by 18 months of maturation on fine lees. Bottled without sulphur additions.
Precise and energetic, tight and driven by acidity, with Nebbiolo's signature red berry tones and a subtle tannin grip from its brief time on skins. Focused, lively and finely structured, with a long, clean finish. A rosato of real ambition and restraint.
