Domaine Danjou-Banessy Supernova Blanc 2025
Domaine Danjou-Banessy is one of the most compelling estates in Roussillon, working organically on the ancient schist soils of the Tet Valley. Brothers Edouard and Benoit Danjou-Banessy farm old vines with minimal intervention, producing wines of unusual depth and individuality that have earned them a devoted following among those who seek out the genuinely singular.
Supernova is a skin-contact wine made from 100% Muscat d'Alexandrie, from old vines on schist. Rather than making a straightforward aromatic Muscat, the brothers give the wine around one month of maceration on whole bunches, allowing the skins to bring texture, structure and a subtle tannic grip. It is then fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 10 to 12 months in a combination of old barrels, amphora and concrete, then bottled without fining or filtration.
The result is aromatic but far from sweet or heavy. Bergamot, orange peel, fresh citrus, white flowers and herbs sit alongside a gentle tea-like character. On the palate it is dry, energetic and surprisingly light on its feet, with fine phenolic texture and a long savoury finish. A brilliant example of how Muscat d'Alexandrie can go far beyond the usual intensely fruity style.
