Domaine la Réméjeanne Côtes du Rhône Les Chèvrefeuilles Rouge 2023
Domaine la Réméjeanne is a certified organic estate in Sabran, in the Gard, run by Olivier Klein with a meticulous approach to both vineyard and cellar. Farming on hillside vines facing south and east at an average altitude of 250 metres, on loess and limestone soils, Klein produces wines of genuine character and precision that consistently over-deliver for their appellation.
Les Chèvrefeuilles, named after the honeysuckle tree, is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan, with some Marselan from old vines, a rarely seen crossing that Klein values for the acidity it brings to the blend. The grapes are sorted and mostly destemmed before natural fermentation in concrete tanks, with the Carignan undergoing carbonic maceration separately. Little or no sulphur is used during vinification, and the wine spends a year in concrete before bottling.
Supple and airy, with notes of mulberry, garrigue and cracked peppercorn, sinewy gliding tannins typical of the limestone-rich soils of Sabran, and a long, vibrantly perfumed finish. Olivier Klein describes 2023 as a beautiful year for the domaine's reds, and the depth of the vintage is perfectly balanced by the wine's bright and succulent close.
