Domaine Tourbillon Cuvée Du Grand Père Cotes du Rhône Rouge
Domaine Tourbillon is a young family estate with roots that run much deeper. The family's story began with Benjamin Tourbillon's grandfather, who farmed vines in Gigondas and supplied the local cooperative for decades. In 2011, Benjamin established Domaine Tourbillon in Lagnes, building on that family inheritance and gradually expanding into some of the Southern Rhône's most celebrated terroirs, including Gigondas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Plan de Dieu and Côtes du Rhône. His brother Alexandre joined the domaine in 2018, bringing the next generation into the family project.
The Cuvée du Grand Père is a fitting tribute to that history. Made predominantly from 80% Grenache from very old vines, with 10% Syrah, and raised entirely in concrete, it is all about fruit, freshness and texture rather than oak.
Dark ruby in colour, with lifted aromas of raspberry, red cherry and flowers, followed by touches of pepper and liquorice. The palate is sappy, seamless and beautifully fresh, with succulent red fruit, silky tannins and a generous, effortless finish.
A wonderfully uncomplicated Southern Rhône red, but with the old vines giving it considerably more depth than its appellation might suggest. Generous, fresh and seriously good value.
