Good Intentions Wine Co. is one of the standout producers of Mount Gambier / Berrin, South Australia, making expressive wines from vineyards shaped by the region’s unique volcanic geology. The Volcanic Lakes Estate Chardonnay comes from the base of the volcanic slope surrounding Mount Gambier / Berrin and the region’s famous Blue Lake / Waa Wor. The vineyard sits on some of the heaviest volcanic soils in Australia, with layers of volcanic ash over ancient lava, giving the wines a distinctive combination of richness, minerality and natural acidity.

2025 was the warmest vintage since Good Intentions began making wine in 2014, allowing the Chardonnay to reach full ripeness and develop greater weight and concentration. At 13.5% alcohol, this is a fuller, more generous expression, with ripe citrus and stone fruit, a creamy texture and subtle buttery character from full malolactic fermentation.

Raised in a combination of well-seasoned barrels and some new French oak, the wine remains fruit-driven while gaining texture and depth. Beneath the richness is the defining freshness of the site, with vibrant natural acidity and a saline, mineral finish that reflects the volcanic soils of Mount Gambier / Berrin.
