Swinney Mourvedre Rosé 2025

Swinney is one of the Great Southern's most celebrated estates, farming with exceptional rigour across their Frankland River vineyards. Their rosé is built from the ground up, made from meticulously tended vines explicitly managed to create this wine, in the manner of the top rosé producers of Southern France. Mourvèdre calls the shots at 86% of the blend, with Vermentino playing a key role for racy freshness.

Most of the fruit is drawn from dry-grown bush vines on Powderbark Vineyard's ironstone gravel hilltop. With a focus on freshness, the fruit was picked on the cusp of full maturity. The Mourvèdre was pressed as bunches using a traditional, ultra-light Champagne cycle, with a small percentage of Vermentino for its freshening acid streak. The juice was run directly to seasoned French oak barriques and fermented with indigenous yeasts.

Beautifully perfumed, with a creamy texture and tight grip, backed by substance and structure.

"This captures all of the earthy, spicy notes inherent in the Mourvèdre grape, while also drawing the fine/dusty/earthy qualities up from the terroir and bringing them to the glass. There are notes of rose petals too. This is a lovely wine. It is savory, dry, shapely and long. It will likely age well too."
