Amelie Guillot Arbois Trousseau Vieilles Vignes 2023
From one of the most quietly compelling domaines in Arbois, this old-vine Trousseau comes from the limestone and marl soils that define the more classic, structured side of the Jura. The Vieilles Vignes designation is key here, these older vines naturally restrain yield, pushing concentration into detail rather than weight.
In the glass, it opens with lifted aromatics of wild strawberry, red cherry skin and crushed cranberry, quickly unfolding into more savoury layers of dried herbs, subtle spice and a faint earthy, almost iron-like mineral note that is very typical of Arbois Trousseau grown on limestone-rich soils.
The palate is all about finesse rather than force. Medium-bodied, transparent and finely etched, it moves with a quiet tension—bright red fruit at the core, framed by silky, grain-fine tannins and a driving line of natural acidity. There’s a gentle rusticity here, but it’s controlled and integrated, not rustic in the heavy sense; more a nod to traditional Jura winemaking restraint than any lack of polish.
Historically, Trousseau has always been the most elusive of the Jura reds; more difficult to grow, lighter in colour, and often overshadowed by Poulsard and Pinot Noir elsewhere. In Arbois, however, it finds one of its most expressive homes, particularly from old vines, where it gains depth without losing its signature lift.
The finish is long, savoury and lightly spiced, with that characteristic Jura combination of red fruit clarity and subtle oxidative savouriness that speaks more of place than winemaking technique.
