Jean-François Ganevat is one of the Jura’s most revered and influential vignerons, a 14th-generation grower whose wines have become cult references for their precision, individuality and sheer drinkability. Working biodynamically and with an extraordinary collection of tiny parcels, Ganevat combines meticulous viticulture with a minimalist approach in the cellar, producing wines that possess Burgundian finesse while remaining unmistakably Jura in character. His wines are now among the most sought-after in the region.

La Colline des Dames is a fascinating Vin de France Rouge made from Pinot Noir from Alsace, demonstrating Ganevat’s willingness to look beyond the traditional boundaries of the Jura to work with exceptional fruit and express it in his own distinctive style.

The Pinot Noir undergoes a semi-carbonic maceration at 12–14°C, before spending 18 months in seasoned foudre with no additions. The result is wonderfully pure and fragrant, with an aromatic profile of wild cherry, rose petal and raspberry, alongside earthy notes of forest floor.

On the palate, the wine is beautifully silky, with fine, supple tannins and a bright mineral drive that carries through to a long, savoury finish. There is an effortless elegance here, combining the perfume and delicacy of Alsatian Pinot Noir with Ganevat’s characteristic energy and textural finesse.

Fragrant, silky and quietly complex, La Colline des Dames is a beautifully expressive Pinot Noir and a superb example of Ganevat’s ability to make compelling wines outside the traditional Jura framework.
