Borgogno Barolo 2021
There are few names in Barolo with the history and significance of Borgogno. Founded in 1761, the estate has long been a custodian of traditional Barolo, producing wines that speak clearly of place, patience and time. The Classico Barolo is drawn from a collection of estate vineyards across some of the appellation's most important communes, offering a complete and authentic expression of the region.
The 2021 vintage is a stunning release. Aromas of rose petals, wild cherry and blood orange unfold alongside notes of liquorice, dried herbs and crushed stone. On the palate, the wine is remarkably poised, combining the concentration and structure of this outstanding vintage with an energy and precision that make it immediately captivating. The tannins are fine and persistent, carrying layers of red fruit and savoury complexity through a long, mineral finish.
Fermented naturally and aged according to the estate's traditional philosophy, this is Barolo that favours transparency over power and character over fashion. It captures the beauty of Nebbiolo in a vintage that many are already comparing to the finest of the past decade.
95 Points – Wine Advocate (Monica Larner)
"The Borgogno 2021 Barolo delivers a very elegant and silky interpretation of Nebbiolo" with bright cherry fruit, blue flowers, crushed stone and balanced tannins. Larner praised the wine's finesse, energy and classic style.
A benchmark Barolo from one of the region's most historic estates, combining pedigree, drinkability and the structure to reward many years in the cellar.
