Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet Sèvre et Maine 2025
Domaine de la Pépière is one of the great names of the Loire Valley, and one of the domaines responsible for transforming the perception of Muscadet. Based in Maisdon-sur-Sèvre, the estate is now run by Rémi Branger and Gwénaëlle Croix, who continue the domaine's meticulous approach to old vines, organic and biodynamic farming, hand harvesting and indigenous yeast fermentation.
The 28-hectare estate is planted across some of the region's most important granite, gabbro and gneiss soils, with many vines over 70 years old and propagated through selection massale. Even the domaine's entry-level Muscadet receives serious élevage, spending time on its lees to build texture and depth.
The 2025 Sèvre et Maine is classic Pépière: 100% Melon de Bourgogne, sourced primarily from granite with a smaller proportion of gneiss, including fruit from the heart of the estate in the Clisson area and Château Thébaud. Farmed organically or biodynamically and harvested by hand, it is a wine of remarkable precision for its price.
Fresh and beautifully expressive, with white pear, citrus, delicate herbal and floral notes. The palate is tight yet supple, driven by fine acidity and a lightly stony mineral core, with an elegant cushion of fruit and a long, refreshing finish.
A benchmark Muscadet and an extraordinary value. This is the kind of everyday wine that seriously over-delivers.
