Elio Altare is one of the names that helped redefine modern Barolo. Based in La Morra, Altare became known for a more precise, vibrant and fruit-driven interpretation of Nebbiolo, with an emphasis on clean fruit, freshness and elegant tannins. The estate farms vineyards across the Barolo area, with the Langhe Nebbiolo drawing from vines in La Morra and Monforte, including plantings between 20 and 50 years old.

The 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo is a particularly inviting introduction to the house style. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, it shows the variety in a more open and immediately accessible form than Barolo: bright ruby in colour, with aromas of rose petals, violet, raspberry and red berries, alongside subtle mineral and graphite notes. On the palate it is lively and finely textured, with juicy red fruit, refreshing acidity and delicate tannins that provide structure without heaviness.

The fruit undergoes a short 3–4 day maceration on the skins in temperature-controlled rotofermenters, followed by around five months in used French barriques. The oak is used for texture and integration rather than to dominate the character of the Nebbiolo.
