Fekete Pince FKT Fekete Somló Olazriesling 2024
Olaszrizling bears no relation to the Riesling you may know. Also known as Welschriesling or Graševina, it is one of Central Europe’s most widely planted indigenous white varieties, and in Somló it takes on a distinctly volcanic expression.
Carefully hand-harvested at the end of November, this wine is naturally fermented in 1000L Hungarian oak barrels before a short maturation split between oak and tank. The result is a pure, unforced expression of site and variety.
Bright and vivid, it opens with aromas of lime zest, oregano, ginger spice, apricot and white peach. The palate is crisp and energetic, showing gooseberry, green apple and almond, carried by a fine saline edge and a subtle peppery finish.
The wine comes from the historic Fekete estate in Somló, one of Hungary’s most distinctive volcanic appellations. Long associated with the legendary Béla Fekete—often referred to as the “Grand Old Man of Somló”—the estate helped define the region’s reputation for intensely mineral, high-acid whites built for the table. Today, Gábor Riesz and family continue that legacy, working organically and with minimal intervention, allowing the ancient basalt soils of Somló to speak clearly in the glass.
A beautifully lifted, food-friendly white with both clarity and character—showing just how expressive Olaszrizling can be in the right hands and the right place.
