Forjas del Salnes Leirana Albarino 2024
Leirana is named for the family plot that helped start Forjas del Salnes, and draws from various parcels across the coastal part of Salnés. All vines are pergola-trained and organically farmed, and the wine carries the saline, oyster-shell hallmark of the zone with real clarity and tension. It is the entry point into the Forjas range and one of the most honest expressions of what coastal Albariño can be when handled without intervention.
Forjas del Salnes is the project of Rodri, who over the past decade has grown from one of the young upstarts of Spanish wine into one of its most respected benchmarks. His blueprint is a 200-year-old vineyard called Finca Genoveva and the ancient winery built beneath it. In the cellar, indigenous yeasts, extended lees ageing and judicious use of oxidative vessels produce wines of real complexity and savouriness. In the vineyard, careful organic viticulture and a commitment to traditional pergola trellising preserve the character of each old parcel.
The 2024 Leirana is complex, tensile and unmistakably of its place, a wine that demonstrates Albariño's often overlooked ability to speak directly of soil and site.
