Anne & Jean-François Ganevat La Croix Des Batailles 2024
Jean-François Ganevat is one of the Jura's most revered vignerons, a 14th-generation grower whose wines have become cult references for their precision, individuality and extraordinary drinkability. Working biodynamically and with an exceptional collection of small parcels, Ganevat combines meticulous vineyard work with a minimalist approach in the cellar. His wines possess a natural Burgundian finesse while retaining the energy, savoury character and unmistakable personality of the Jura.
La Croix des Batailles is a Vin de France Rouge made from Pinot Noir sourced from both Mâcon and the Jura, bringing together fruit from two distinct areas under Ganevat's singular winemaking approach. As with so many of his Vin de France cuvées, the wine sits outside the traditional appellation framework but loses none of the precision or sense of place that define his work.
The fruit undergoes a semi-carbonic maceration at 12–14°C, followed by 18 months of ageing in seasoned foudre, with no additions. This gentle approach preserves the freshness and perfume of the Pinot Noir while allowing plenty of texture and complexity to develop.
The nose is beautifully expressive, offering red cherry, wild strawberry, delicate spice and floral aromatics. The palate is fine-boned and energetic, with bright acidity, silky tannins and an impressive sense of length. There is a lovely balance between delicate fruit and savoury depth, making the wine both elegant and exceptionally easy to drink.
Pure, fragrant and effortlessly refined, La Croix des Batailles is another compelling example of Ganevat's ability to turn Pinot Noir from different origins into something unmistakably his own.
