Good Intentions Wine Co. is one of the standout producers of Mount Gambier / Berrin, South Australia, making expressive wines from vineyards shaped by the region’s unique volcanic geology. The Volcanic Lakes vineyard has always had a scattering of red vines growing amongst the Chardonnay. As the vineyard has matured, these vines are now individually picked and vinified separately, creating this unusual red wine from a site better known for Chardonnay.

The grapes are destemmed and left on skins for 20 days in open-top fermenters, resulting in a crisp, medium-bodied red with dark fruits, earthy minerality and lifted spice. Medium tannins provide structure, while the volcanic soils bring distinctive notes of smoky ash and graphite.

Fresh, savoury and slightly wild, with plenty of dark fruit and a crunchy, mineral-driven finish. A fascinating expression of the volcanic landscape of Mount Gambier.
