Iliana Malihin founded her winery in 2019 at just 26, in the village of Melampes in Crete's Rethymno region. Her focus is the revival of old, often ungrafted vineyards at altitude — between 600 and 900 metres — cultivating indigenous Cretan varieties including Vidiano, Thrapsathiri and Liatiko. The vineyards sit on steep terraces of schist, clay and quartz, farmed organically with dry cultivation, native yeasts, minimal sulphites and entirely manual work. Following a wildfire in 2022, Iliana has worked to restore the vineyards and protect the surrounding community's vine heritage. The winery is defined by its rare pre-phylloxera vines, dramatic terrain and a deeply revivalist, boutique natural wine ethos.

This Liatiko red is crafted from old, ungrafted bush vines in the elevated Meronas region of Crete — 40 to 50 year old vines grown at 700 to 900 metres, dry-farmed for maximum concentration. Fermented naturally with wild yeasts, a long and gentle extraction draws out fine tannins and depth before the wine rests for eight months, split between seasoned third-use barrels and stainless steel. Bottled unfined, unfiltered and with minimal sulphur, it is a wine of real character and longevity.

Pale ruby in colour, the nose reveals fresh cherry, subtle spice and a quiet earthiness. The palate is bright and textural — lively acidity balanced by fine tannins and a savoury, mineral edge. Delicate in structure yet deeply expressive, this is a food-focused red that rewards patience and pairs beautifully with Cretan-style lamb, grilled meats, roasted vegetables or aged cheeses. Serve with a slight chill for maximum pleasure.
