Jean Foillard Fleurie 2024
PRE-ARRIVAL — EXPECTED WEEK OF OCTOBER 12TH
Foillard may be synonymous with Morgon, but his Fleurie has become one of the domaine’s most sought-after wines. It comes from very old vines in Grille-Midi and La Madone, two of Fleurie’s most highly regarded sites, where granite soils give Gamay a particularly perfumed, fine and mineral expression.
The cooler 2024 vintage feels perfectly suited to Fleurie. Wild strawberry, raspberry and red cherry are lifted by violets, rose petals and subtle spice. There is plenty of intensity, but everything feels light on its feet — fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a mineral line running through a beautifully silky palate.
Compared with the deeper, more structured Côte du Py, this is Foillard at his most fragrant and ethereal. A remarkably pure expression of Fleurie from one of the masters of Beaujolais.
Traditionally vinified with whole bunches, native yeasts, long maceration and élevage in neutral oak with minimal intervention.
