Jean-François Ganevat is one of the Jura’s most revered vignerons, a 14th-generation grower whose wines have become cult references for their precision, individuality and extraordinary longevity. Working organically and biodynamically across an extraordinary collection of old-vine parcels, Ganevat combines meticulous vineyard work with a minimalist approach in the cellar. His wines possess a Burgundian finesse while retaining the freshness, energy and unmistakable personality of the Jura.

Les Grands Teppes Vieilles Vignes is one of Ganevat’s most celebrated Chardonnay cuvées, sourced from very old vines in the Jura and rooted in the region’s characteristic marl and limestone soils. The old vines naturally produce small yields, giving the wine exceptional concentration while preserving the mineral tension and freshness that define great Jura Chardonnay.

The 2018 vintage is a particularly compelling expression, combining ripe, generous fruit with the structure and acidity needed for long ageing. Ganevat’s patient élevage allows the wine to develop slowly, building layers of texture and complexity without losing its underlying energy.

The nose is intensely expressive, with ripe citrus, yellow orchard fruit, white flowers and toasted hazelnut, alongside subtle spice and the earthy, savoury nuances that emerge with age. On the palate, it is broad and concentrated but beautifully controlled, with bright acidity cutting through the richness and a pronounced mineral character carrying into a long, saline finish.

There is a wonderful combination of power and precision here. The old vines give the wine depth and density, while Ganevat’s winemaking keeps it lifted and remarkably detailed. With air, the wine continues to unfold, revealing more savoury and nutty complexity.
