La Comarcal 'Grillat' Garnacha, Monastrell Valencia 2024
Grillat is a blend of two vineyards in La Font de la Figuera: ten-year-old Garnacha vines and forty-year-old Monastrell, both on white limestone soils. Picked early and fermented and aged in concrete, the wine is floral, lifted and juicy with a persistent undertow of chalkiness that keeps it fresh and precise. It is one of the most immediately appealing wines in the La Comarcal range and a genuine overdeliverer at its price.
La Comarcal is the project of close friends Javi Revert and Victor Marques, who met as young winemakers at Celler del Roure and worked together there for over a decade. Based in the mountainous village of Venta del Moro in the Valencia D.O., the project is built around regenerative farming, heritage varietals, old vines and terroir expressiveness, balanced with the unhurried, Mediterranean character both men bring to everything they make.
All four La Comarcal wines are produced using native yeasts, organic farming with some biodynamic treatments, and no additions beyond small amounts of sulphur. The altitude, traditional varietals and climate of Venta del Moro make this level of care possible without inflating the price, and old vines like those in Grillat remain genuinely affordable in this corner of Valencia.
