La Comarcal 'La Font' Malvasia Riojana Valencia 2024
La Font comes from a vineyard in La Font de la Figuera planted in 1975 on limestone at 600 metres above sea level. The parcel is called Paraje Los Juncarejos, sitting at the trailhead of a multiday hiking trail through the Puntalejo National Park. It is one of the two Cru wines in the La Comarcal range, fermented in an old oak foudre and built around Malvasia Riojana, a leaner and less aromatic cousin of Malvasia de Sitges. The wine sits in Riesling weight, with saline chalkiness running beneath fennel pollen and bosc pear. Precise, textural and quietly compelling.
La Comarcal is the project of close friends Javi Revert and Victor Marques, who met as young winemakers at Celler del Roure and worked together there for over a decade. Based in the mountainous village of Venta del Moro in the Valencia D.O., the project is built around regenerative farming, heritage varietals, old vines and terroir expressiveness, balanced with the unhurried Mediterranean character both men bring to everything they make.
All La Comarcal wines are produced using native yeasts, organic farming with some biodynamic treatments, and no additions beyond small amounts of sulphur.
