La Magia Rosso Di Montalcino 2024
From the cooler northern slopes of Montalcino, La Magia works from altitude, where vineyards sit at around 400 to 450 metres above sea level. Facing southeast, the site combines sandy soils with limestone and clay, helping the vines retain balance through the dry Tuscan seasons. A subtle volcanic influence runs through the subsoil, often showing itself as a distinct mineral line in the wines.
The estate is led by Fabian and his family, who have built their approach around restraint rather than intervention. Production is deliberately limited, with Brunello only released in the strongest vintages, reflecting a philosophy of responding to nature rather than forcing it. Sustainability has been embedded for decades, from early solar installations to a fully self-sufficient photovoltaic system, and the vineyard work follows biodynamic principles with a strong focus on soil and plant health.
Within the 52 hectares sits a 15-hectare cru called Ciliegio, planted to old vine Sangiovese. It is the heart of the estate and the source of their most precious bottlings, released only in very limited, individually numbered quantities.
The Rosso di Montalcino 2024 sits in this context of precision and patience. It shows red cherry, wild strawberry and pomegranate, with rose petals and a faint herbal lift. The fruit is bright and finely etched, shaped by altitude and freshness rather than weight.
On the palate it is linear and composed. Acidity drives the structure, while fine, slightly grainy tannins give grip without heaviness. There is a subtle mineral thread underneath, a quiet echo of the sandy, volcanic soils that define the estate.
It is a clear expression of La Magia’s style in its most immediate form: cool, precise, and rooted in a vineyard philosophy that prioritises identity over volume.
