Lucy Margaux Gamay Nouveau 2025 Adelaide Hills
A bright, energetic and early-drinking Gamay from the Adelaide Hills, made in a deliberately light, vibrant “nouveau” style. The fruit is typically sourced from cool-climate sites and handled with minimal intervention, with whole-bunch fermentation and gentle extraction designed to preserve perfume, freshness and immediacy.
The nose is lifted and expressive, showing red cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry, layered with rose petal, violets and a subtle herbal edge. There’s a faint fermentative, carbonic lift that adds a playful, slightly “glou-glou” character without losing definition.
On the palate, it is light-bodied, juicy and highly drinkable, driven by crunchy red berry fruit and bright natural acidity. Tannins are soft and fine, almost invisible in texture, giving the wine a smooth, flowing feel. The finish is dry, fresh and lightly savoury, with lingering red fruit and spice.
Producer background:
Lucy Margaux is a Basket Range–based natural winemaking project in the Adelaide Hills, known for its uncompromising low-intervention philosophy. Wines are made from organically farmed grapes, wild fermentations, and minimal or no additions, with a strong emphasis on site expression, texture and vintage variation rather than consistency. The “Gamay Nouveau” sits within this ethos as a highly drinkable, early-release red designed to capture the immediacy of harvest season in a raw, unfiltered style.
Best served slightly chilled, it’s a natural fit for casual drinking, shared plates, and warm-weather dining, but remains just as compelling when poured alongside richer food thanks to its acidity and lift.
