Lucy Margaux 'Sauvignon Sensual' 2025 Adelaide Hills
A highly expressive, minimal-intervention Sauvignon Blanc from the Adelaide Hills, made in the unmistakably loose, textural style of Lucy Margaux. Rather than aiming for varietal precision, this wine explores Sauvignon through a natural lens—prioritising aroma, texture and energy over conventional clarity.
Fruit is sourced from cool-climate Adelaide Hills vineyards and handled with whole-bunch pressing, wild fermentation and minimal sulphur additions. The result is a wine that sits well outside the typical “green and tropical” Sauvignon spectrum.
The nose is lifted and aromatic, showing grapefruit, lemon zest and green apple, layered with gooseberry skin, fresh herbs and subtle floral tones. There’s a faint fermentative and spicy complexity that adds depth and a slightly wild edge to the aromatics.
On the palate, it is dry, light to medium-bodied and textural, with bright citrus-driven acidity providing shape and drive. The fruit is crisp and energetic—lime, grapefruit and white stone fruit—interwoven with herbal notes, subtle phenolics and a gentle savoury grip. The finish is clean, saline and refreshing, with a lingering citrus zest character.
Producer background:
Lucy Margaux is a Basket Range–based natural winemaking project in the Adelaide Hills, led by Anton van Klopper. The philosophy is centred on organic viticulture, wild fermentation, and minimal intervention, often with little or no added sulphur. Wines are made to reflect vineyard character and vintage variation rather than strict varietal definition, resulting in highly expressive, sometimes unconventional but always character-driven bottlings.
“Sauvignon Sensual” represents this ethos applied to Sauvignon Blanc—less about varietal typicity, more about texture, aromatic lift and natural expression, appealing to drinkers who enjoy skin-contact whites, Jura-style wines, and more experimental interpretations of classic grapes.
