LVDO Mt Torrens Syrah Light Red 2025
Recent allocation. Orders dispatched week of 14 September.
LVDO is the Adelaide Hills project of Marcell Kustos, a producer known for pushing beyond predictable Australian wine styles in pursuit of site, texture and individuality. The 2025 collection is his most refined and ambitious release to date, produced in exceptionally small quantities.
This fascinating red comes from the Burnton Ridge Vineyard in Mt Torrens, high in the Adelaide Hills. Planted in 1998 at around 470 metres elevation, the vineyard sits on decomposed granite scattered with ironstone and quartzite and produces naturally low yields of intensely aromatic fruit.
Inspired by the Australian “Red Burgundy” wines of the 1950s and 1960s—often based around the grape then known as Hermitage—this is a deliberately lighter, more perfumed expression of Syrah. Aromatic, sweet-fruited, spicy and herbal, it combines the power and structure of cool-climate Syrah with remarkable grace and an almost Pinot Noir-like drinkability.
The 2025 is a blend of 96% Syrah, 2% Nero d’Avola, 1% Sangiovese and 1% Viognier. The fruit was harvested over three separate passes and fermented using a combination of destemmed and whole-cluster fruit, with long macerations bringing complexity and structure. The wine was then aged for 10 months in old puncheons.
A distinctive and highly individual Adelaide Hills red that challenges expectations of Australian Syrah.
